Queensland
Queensland (Qld) is a state situated in northeastern Australia and is the second-largest and third-most-populous Australian state. It is bordered by the Northern Territory, South Australia, and New South Wales to the west, south-west and south respectively.
Queensland has an area of 1,852,642 square kilometres (715,309 sq mi), Queensland is the world’s sixth-largest sub-national entity, and is larger than all but 15 countries. Due to its size, Queensland’s geographical features and climates are diverse, including tropical rainforests, rivers, coral reefs, mountain ranges and sandy beaches in its tropical and sub-tropical coastal regions, as well as deserts and savanna in the semi-arid and desert climatic regions of its interior.

Coat of Arms for Queensland
The coat of arms of Queensland is the oldest in Australia, and was first granted by Queen Victoria in 1893 through the simplest form of heraldic grants; with the shield of arms, motto, helmet, mantling and crest.

Flag for Queensland
The state flag of Queensland is a British Blue Ensign with the state badge on a white disc added in the fly. The badge is a light blue Maltese Cross with an imperial crown in the centre of the cross. The flag dates from 1876, with minor variations, and the badge was designed by William Hemmant, the Colonial Secretary and Treasurer of Queensland in 1876.

Emblems of Queensland
Animal Emblem
The koala was officially named the animal or faunal, emblem of Queensland in 1971 after a newspaper poll showed strong public support. The Queensland Government introduced the poll due to a proposal by state tourism ministers for all states to adopt a faunal emblem.
Bird Emblem
In January 1986 the brolga was announced as the official bird emblem of Queensland, after being on the Coat of Arms since 1977.
Floral Emblem
The Cooktown orchid became known as Queensland’s floral emblem in 1959, during celebrations to mark the state’s centenary. In 1968 the Cooktown orchid was featured on an Australian postage stamp.
Aquatic Emblem
Amphiprion akindynos, the Barrier Reef anemonefish, is a species of anemonefish that is principally found in the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, but also in nearby locations in the Western Pacific. The species name ‘akindynos’ is Greek, meaning ‘safe’ or ‘without danger’ in reference to the safety afforded amongst the tentacles of its host anemone.
Gemstone Emblem
The sapphire, of any colour, is the state’s gemstone emblem.
